United States Polo Association Modernizes Officiating with VOGO Audio and Video Technology

About the United States Polo Association
The United States Polo Association, or USPA, supports and promotes the sport of polo across the United States. The organization coordinates member clubs and registered players, oversees tournaments and competitions, establishes rules and handicaps, and supports the safety and welfare of players and horses.
USPA has used VOKKERO referee communication systems since 2013, making it one of VOGO North America’s longest-standing customers.
The Challenge
After more than a decade of using VOKKERO audio systems for polo officiating, USPA wanted to further professionalize its Umpire Program by adding instant video replay technology.
The organization needed a portable officiating system that could combine referee audio communication with multi-angle video review. The equipment also needed to be easy to transport, set up, and operate as the U.S. polo season moved between California, Florida, and other competition locations.
USPA needed a solution that could:

- Move easily between polo venues across the United States
- Combine referee communication and instant video replay
- Provide an intuitive interface for umpires
- Maintain consistent officiating standards throughout the season
The VOGO Solution
USPA selected VOGOSPORT ELITE as its instant replay system and integrated it with its existing VOKKERO ELITE referee communication equipment.
The combined system was initially deployed at the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club in California before being moved to Florida for the next stage of the U.S. polo season. The technology is expected to support approximately 100 to 150 matches per season.
VOKKERO ELITE Referee Communication
Each umpire uses a VOKKERO ELITE device connected to a professional earpiece and microphone. On-field umpires, the video umpire, and pitch-side officials can communicate continuously and immediately throughout the match.
This constant connection is especially important in polo, where the speed of play and the safety of players and horses require fast, coordinated decisions.
VOGOSPORT ELITE Instant Replay
The portable video replay configuration includes a mobile server capable of receiving multiple synchronized camera feeds, including footage captured by drone.
A dedicated video umpire reviews plays using a large touchscreen monitor positioned pitch-side, while on-field umpires can review footage on a touchscreen tablet before confirming a decision.
The interface allows officials to quickly select the best camera angle, replay the action, and use slow motion to examine important details.
